Caminul Felix Village
Helicopter view of CF Village: Assist International coordinated the building of Caminul Felix Village II in Oradea, Romania. Caminul Felix was founded by Lars and Linda Hornberg from Sweden in 1990. Assist International has been a partner with CF since 1990. In the two CF villages over 200 children have parents and are in a family environment in which they have the opportunity to be secure, be educated and mentored by those who love them. It gives these abandoned and orphaned children a hope and a future.
Rescued Children
The Child Protective Services of Bihor County, Oradea, Romania, found this child and her 5 siblings abandoned in the winter in a house with no heat. A 4 month old sibling was found frozen to death. Lars and Linda rescued these children and placed them in one of our homes.
Beautiful Girl
This beautiful girl is one of the children found in the home where her baby sister was frozen to death. You can tell she is happy in her family home.
A New Family
5 of the children pictured here are the children found by the Child Protective Services in Oradea. They now are together pictured here with their Caminul Felix Family in their own home in CF Village II.
Education
Not only do these children have parents, but Caminul Felix provides qualified teachers who mentor the children who have been raised in the streets until they are capable of attending public school in the grade that matches their age.

Teenhouse Apartments

Modesto Team
A group of 22 people traveled to Oradea from June 23 to July 3, 2006 to work on the Teenhouse apartments for Caminul Felix. This was a joint project of Modesto Sunrise Rotary, Trinity Presbyterian Church of Modesto, and the Rotary Club of Reno, Nevada. The team worked very hard and was were able to complete two apartments, which are now fully furnished and ready for the teenagers to move in.

Santa Cruz Team
A team of 21 departed SFO on July 12 for two weeks of working together to finish one more of the Teen House apartments if Oradea Romania. This team was primarily made of people from Santa Cruz Bible Church (SCBC) located in Santa Cruz, California. It is SCBC's fifth team venture since 2001 supporting the ministries of Caminul Felix by constructing homes, playgrounds or apartments.

The vision of the Teen House is to bring about a structured transition for the children who have grown up in the homes of Caminul Felix. Adjusting to society as an adult is difficult for teens in many cultures including our own here in the USA. Having the program including the housing for these teens will ensure a greater success in these young adult lives.

This particular project had unique elements that worked out to be successful. The first difference from past team projects was all materials and furnishings were purchased there in Romania. Purchasing everything their helps their economy overall and allows them to have greater access to materials or parts for maintenance and future repairs. It also lessens the burden of the preparation required compared to past trips with purchasing, acquiring, and packing containers for shipping. We saw this as a win-win for all concerned.

Another unique element of this apartment was making it handicap accessible so it can serve as a temporary apartment for the adjacent ministry of Theranova, a ministry devoted to providing prosthetics and orthotics to children and adults through out the Eastern European countries neighboring Romania. We had the privilege to meet Vasilca, a 21 year old man who lost both legs in an industrial accident. While constructing the apartment he came to help us determine heights and dimensions for sinks, bracings, doorways and most notably a shower capable of allowing in wheel chair access while preventing water from leaking out. With ingenuity and skills nested in our team members, all was accomplished.

Many of our team came to Romania for the first time, while others brought their families and spouses. It was a team with skilled craftsman, capable workers and those willing to learn. All were touched by their partnership with Caminul Felix and Theranova team members. Most all of them have asked when we plan to go again so they can possibly return for the next adventure. You can’t ask for better feedback than that.
