Assist International in Mali:
Mali, a former French colony, is a poor West African nation. The country has a population of over 20 million with one teaching and referral hospital, the Hospital National du Point G Referral and Teaching Hospital located in the capital city of Bamako. The Intensive Care Department of this 500 bed hospital had only two working monitors. With the help of General Electric, Assist International was able to provide a fully equipped Intensive Care Department with a total of 17 patient monitors, central station, a new portable x-ray machine, a new ultrasound, a large supply of medical supplies and accessories and four wheelchairs from the Wheel Chair Foundation. Installation included training for both medical and bio-medical personnel and all the consumables needed for the first year.
