In April 2005, Assist International traveled to Butare, Rwanda to complete a medical installation project. One of the goals of Rwanda is to improve the Ministry of Health capacity to perform program monitoring and evaluation and to upgrade the hospitals of Rwanda. Read more about this project.

The Butare University Teaching Hospital not only needed an upgraded intensive care/cardiac care department but adequate training on the maintenance and use of the equipment. Local rotaries teamed with Assist International in the installation of a 6 bed cardiac care monitoring system with central station, a 6 bed "step down" cardiac care monitoring system, a 6 bed telemetry system including medical supplies and accessories.

Assist International provided biomedical engineering training on maintenance and repair and provided cardiology training for the equipment to the doctors and nurses of the ICU/Critical Care Department of the hospital.
