Education Projects:
One of the key components to Assist International's mission is to build schools and training centers for children in need around the world. Where possible, Assist team members participate directly and rely upon key donors for materials, funds and manpower. Several examples of this work can be seen in the profiles below.

COUNTRY: Sri Lanka
PROJECT: Tangelle School





Asiana Education Development (AED), one of the most effective humanitarian organizations in Sri Lanka and the organization that our US Government and Marine Corp used as a first response organization for the tsunami recovery, asked for Assist International's help in the rebuilding of some schools that were destroyed through the tsunami.

With the help of the Haynes Charitable Foundation, Assist International was able to donate to AED $30,000 for the building of the school for the Tangelle District of Sri Lanka. Special thanks to the The Haynes Charitable Foundation for their contributions to make this school project a reality.

COUNTRY: Sudan
PROJECT: Deraige IDP Camp School





With over 36,000 inhabitants, the majority of them Darfurians, the Deraige IDP camp houses thousands of children seeking refuge from the war-torn countryside. Families forced to flee their homes see the IDP as a temporary situation, but with the continued genocide in Darfur, many of the internally displaced children will end up spending their entire childhood in the camp.

This school is a vital resource that will help the children gain much-needed education and life skills. Our NGO partner on the ground, EDOOS (Educational Development Organization of Sudan), has been instrumental in the process.
